Upper-limb recovery following stroke
In this project, we investigate the effects of bimanual training and functional electric stimulation on the recovery of upper-limb after stroke. We hypothesize that the combination of the two techniques results in a faster and better recovery. Preliminary results on 8 patients confirm that we should wait until the inclusion of about 40 patients to reach significant conclusions. In parallel, we want to better quantify upper-limb recovery after stroke, in a simple and objective fashion, using 3D movement capture (Polhemus Fastrack). Preliminary results show that an index of efficiency, that quantifies movement directness when reaching in 3D space, is well correlated with Flugl-Meyer Score and Functional Independence Measure after treatment.
